This spring’s food crisis shows how urgent it is to promote a different agricultual policy in every continent, in order to guarantee a sufficient amount of food to a world that’s facing a constant demographic growth. Divided as it is in several sovereign states, Europe isn’t ready to fulfill this task.

The serious economic and political crisis that Italy is going through is the clearest aspect of the european situation’s regression, and citizens will only be able to face this situation if they’ll relaunch the european integration process based on new pillars.

There are three unavoidable problems: the power we need to affirm Europe’s independence in terms of security; the framework in which it would become possible to acquire such a power, the creation of a new military staff that can be held accountable by a european sovereign power.

The West’s attitude is perhaps key if we want to stop Russia from coming back authoritarianism. Europe’s divisions paves the way to weakness and instability feeding the lowest instincts in russian politics and society.

The European integration process has apparently stopped after the Lisbon Treaty. Therefore, the federal move by a group of countries is the only instrument we can use to create favourable conditions so that we can face the global challenges that are threatening Europe.

A federal Europe, capable of actions as well as being influential in the world stage can make international relations find peace and balance again, by making it possible to have a cooperative governance of global crises.

If we preserve the status quo, if we indefinitely postpone any kind of federal reform of the european institutions, Europe will be inevitably forced to inaction: we need a federal covenant promoted by the original member states if we want to preserve the future of Europe.

If we believe that a political Europe is really necessary, then we must be bold enough to recognise that any fight for a European Federation will be doomed to fail in the current framework of the european institutions.

With the coming back of nationalism and divisions within both Europe and the world, governments and political forces in France, Germany, and Italy must become aware of the threats to the European Union’s very survival.

We can’t expect europeans to reduce their reliance on imports and promote a revolution in the fields of manufacturing and energy consumption by remaining a political and financial minority, forced as they are into this sitution by the national dimension as well as the european confederal framework.

The essential political will to challenge the status quo and initiate the creation of a federal state can only be reasonably developed among those countries that have, politically and historically, created an environment favourable to making such a leap possible.

The EU’s crisis will become irreversible if we’re unable to separate the area where it’s still possibile to forge Europe’s political union from that of the enlarged Union. This is not about dividing Europe, on the contrary we’re laying the foundation of its revamping along with all the countries that will wish to take part in this.
